Friday

Kevin and I met our friends on Friday night for a  Texas Ranger's game.  I know, I know.  The Rangers are having a terrible season.  It was a great game though.

Here's Tish's parents (Shane accidentaly blocked her mom's head at the moment I took the picture), Shane, Tish, and Kevin.

I jumped in for a quick pic.  First course, hot dogs.  Next we had nachos.  I was going to take a picture of the fake cheese and jalapenos in all their glory, but I ate them too quickly.

Here's some yummy funnel cake.  Fortunately it was not very hot outside that evening.  I was starting to look a little shiny though towards the end.  The good news was that the Ranger's WON!  The score was Rangers 11 Astros 3.  Great game!  There was an awesome fireworks show afterwards.  We left 5 minutes before it was over to get to our car and get out of there before everyone else did.  The bad news was that we lost our car.  Yep.  The sad thing was that we had even parked REALLY close.  We wandered around the parking lots for over 30 minutes; by this time just about everyone had left.  We finally asked for some help and realized we had exited the ballpark from the opposite end than we had entered.  Oops.  We then spent another 15 minutes walking to our car.  Good news is that we had an easy time getting out.  There were only 2 other cars in the parking lot with ours and they were workers.  Good times.

SATURDAY

I drove to Frisco on Saturday to see my friend Jaalla and her sister Jo.  Jo was in town visiting.  I have known her since she was born and I can't believe she's so grown up.

Here's Jaalla and the next picture is Jo.  We went to Olive Garden first, then Jaa had to pick up another turtle for her tank.

Jaa is a school teacher and keeps turtles in her classroom.  The new one is on the left.  She now has a total of three.  They are SO cute!

Bowling

Kevin and I became interested in bowling together two anniversaries ago.  I wanted to do something besides just go out to eat.  I wanted to do something fun!  We had a blast that night.  We had been bowling together before with friends, but never alone.  I also took a bowling class in college.  It was my PE credit, but it really helped with my form.  I have the precision and Kevin has the power, so he thought we'd make a good team.  We both agreed to go bowling together more often and work on our skills, so we decided to search out used bowling balls and shoes.  When we went home last Thanksgiving to visit family, my grandmother (on my mom's side) gave Kevin my grandfather's bowling ball and shoes.  They were both a perfect fit!  The shoes were brand new and the bowling ball was a used one she had found at a garage sale.  My grandfather is in the late stages of Alzheimer's now and not able to bowl anymore.  My grandmother is an avid 80 year old bowler.  It is one of her all time favorite things next to yard work.  At the ripe age of 80 she has been known to bowl 6 games in a row on senior citizens day at the bowling alley.  She watches it on TV and she is also in a league.  She is so cute!  Whenever she gets a strike she proclaims, "Praise Jesus" and high fives all those around her.  Everyone loves my grandmother.  My mother also used to bowl on the league with her and my aunt, so this is definitely a family sport.  So, Kevin and I have yet to go and bowl together again.  After discovering his deception, we will now be going next week.  He also found me a very nice used ball, so we will be going this weekend to check it out and see if it fits my hand well.  I also think that Kevin and Bill need to find something else fun to do on Tuesday nights instead of going bowling.  I can't have Kevin getting better than me!!!

Finished Socks

I'm feeling pretty much back to normal now.  I think I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow.  I'm going to take it easy though; just weights and probably walk a couple of miles on the treadmill.  I'm not sure if I'm ready to hop back on the elliptical yet.

I finished my socks over the weekend when I was laid up on the couch.

Man, my calves look huge!  I love these socks though.  They are machine washable, unlike most of my hand knit socks, and they are SO soft and comfortable.  They are all mine!  I really like the self-striping pattern.  This yarn was gifted to me by a lovely lady I work with named Janet.  She is in my lunch knitting group at work and a knitting guru.

I just discovered a secret of my husband's this evening.  He goes out most Tuesday nights with one of our good friends from church (this I knew).  They started out by meeting at Starbucks and talking over coffee.  Well, it turns out that the last 3 or 4 times I thought they were "going out for coffee", they have been going to the bowling alley!  He had been keeping his bowling ball and shoes in his truck so I wouldn't know!  He hadn't told me about this new meeting place because he wanted to be well practiced.  Basically he was under the impression that he could kick my butt the next time we went bowling together.  How sneaky!  It's on!  I'm searching http://dallas.craigslist.org/ as we speak to find my own bowling ball and shoes!

Sick

Well, it's been interesting.  I went home early from work on Wednesday.  I had a fever and chills, achenes, cough, and my chest hurt.  I didn't go to work yesterday because I was still feeling bad.  I took two Mucinex D at 10:00 a.m.  Bad idea.  After about 20 min. my heart started beating faster and my breathing was a little bit labored.  I decided to go ahead and go to CareNow to get some treatment.  I wasn't terribly concerned until I had been there for about 5 min.  My breathing became a little more difficult and my hands started going numb.  Fortunately I only had to wait 15 min. (I've waited 4 hours there before).  When the nurse called me back I though my knees were going to buckle underneath me.  As she asked me questions, my hands became completely numb and was moving up my arms.  I then began to hyperventilate.  That is NOT fun.  The led me back to a bed and called the doctor.  My legs were going numb at this point and I thought I was going to be sick.  He tried to straighten my contorted hands.  He helped me get my breathing down a little bit and decided to call an ambulance.  He helped me call Kevin to let him know what hospital I was going to.  They gave me a shot of a steriode.  The ambulance came and got me.  I was a little disappointed they didn't run the siren.  After all, I will be paying out the wazoo for that ride. :)  Just kidding, I was embarrassed enough as it was.  My heart rate had gone down some and they didn't feel I was in a lot of danger.  They got me in a room and Kevin showed up.  I was so glad he was there!  They did a EKG and chest x-ray.  They wanted to make sure I didn't have a blood clot.  They then took several lung tests.  I checked in at noon and I didn't get my results back till 7:45 p.m.  It turns out that I have pneumonia in my left lung.  Crazy!  I've never had pneumonia.  Probably got it from all the germy people at work.  It turns out that Mucinex works so quickly it can raise your heart rate.  When my breathing became labored it made my hands started going numb from lack of oxygen.  The rest I did myself.  I got scared and that raised my heart rate and caused less oxygen and more numbness.  Needless to say I will never take Mucinex again!  I'm just taking it easy at home today and recovering with some meds.

Is it Friday Yet?

Wow, I am tired.  Remodeling the shower was a lot of work.  While I had fun Friday night, Kevin was demolishing the walls of the bath tub/shower and adding new walls with cement board.  I got home at 11:00 and crashed at midnight.  He stayed up till 2:30 a.m. finishing the walls.  We did work together on it all day Saturday and then on Sunday.  We had to skip out on church on Sunday because as Kevin called it, we were "hygienically challenged."  We went over to our friend's house and used their shower last night.  Hopefully I can post before and after pics of the shower tomorrow.  I love it.  I think it is so much better than it was.

Girl's Night

We had a great time on Friday at Sheri's!  We had a wonderful lasagna dinner with all the fixings.  For desert we had raspberry pinot noir chocolate sauce fondue with pound cake, strawberries, and apples.  Needless to say, fun was had by all.

Sheri, Mayeli, Gwen, and me.  Deva (not pictured) was the photographer.  We also played many rounds of Linkity http://simplyfun.com/products/linkity/.  Awesome game!

Update

See post "I'm Back" for updated picture!
Tonight Kevin starts the demo work on our shower.  The investor that had our house before us put some very interesting material on the walls of the bath tub that is definitely not meant to be used in a shower.  It's beginning to deteriorate a little, so we decided it was time to redo the shower.  Tonight Kevin will tear out the walls of the shower - yikes!  I will be helping him on Saturday and Sunday.  We bought some beautiful slate tiles.  They are not the small tiles, but the bigger ones.  It will still look good, but take less time.  This is similar to what we bought.

Kevin recently tiled our counter top in the kitchen and did a great job.
We are slowly but surely improving our home.  It was built in 1945, so it definitely has needed some work.  When we bought it, it did not have central air.  It had central heat though.  Central heat and no central air in Texas...  Anyways, Kevin and his uncle installed the heating and air system themselves.  I am so blessed to have a handy husband!  Our next project will be landscaping in the front yard.  You would think we would have already done that after living here for 2 years, but I HATE gardening.  Oh, we have painted the bedroom.  It is the only room in the house that is not white.
I really love the way the color of the walls goes with the red duvet and curtains.

Tonight I will be having a good time while my husband slaves away at the house.  I am going to my friend Sheri's to hang out with the girls.  Girls night out!  I'll try to post pics this weekend.

Almost Friday

This is a picture that my husband took.
Take a good look at the guy in between the two motorcycles.  He has a helmet with horns on it!  I think he looks like a viking.

I'm Back

I had a great weekend!  It was entirely too short.  On Friday when I arrived, mom and I went to Pirates of the Caribean III.  It was okay.  I give it a 6.5 out of 10.  It was not as good as the first two, but there were several surprises.

On Saturday I went to my family reunion about 15 minutes away from my parents at my grandparent's house.  This is my dad's side of the family.  It was so great to see everyone again considering it's usually only once a year that we get together.

The top left picture is of my Grandfather (Papa) and my Uncle Gary.  My Uncle Gary works overseas in Iraq and was home for a quick visit.  His son is also over in Iraq, but he is fighting and wasn't scheduled for leave yet.  The top middle picture is of my Dad and my Uncle Tim.  That is my Dad's motorcycle.  The top right picture is my cousin Alex (he's such a cutey) and my Grandmother (Nanni).  We were playing chicken foot.  For those of you who do not now, chicken foot is a great domino game that our family loves!  Our games can get pretty heated.  And I love the last picture.  That's me and my Dad.  Everyone thinks that I look more like him, but since my hair is blonde now instead of my natural light brown color, I look more like my Mom.  There are no pictures of her because she is camera shy.  Very, very camera shy.  I'm waiting on a picture of me and my Aunt Kaylen to post.  She is going to send it my way, and with her permission, I will post it.  This isn't just any aunt.  She's my favorite aunt!

Sunday my Dad and I drove over to my grandparent's house early that morning and they cooked us breakfast.  It is a Sunday morning ritual for him to go over to their house for breakfast.  I always enjoy doing that when I'm in town.

I got back home around 1:00 on Sunday.  It's always nice to come home to Kevin after having not seen him for a few days.
